Do not purchase this camera! This camera was purchased for a family trip to Maui and I was very excited about using it for snorkeling. The camera (black olympus 1030sw)had worked great for my father the previous year and as such 4 more cameras were purchased by friends/family (green olympus 1030sw). Within 5 days all 4 green cameras had stopped working due to water entering the supposedly water tight battery or USB compartments. I was successfully able to use my new camera for 1 day, but upon entering the water on day 2 the camera's LCD screen stopped working. Of the other 3 other broken cameras, 1 stopped working immediately after going underwater, 1 stopped working on the 3rd snorkel trip and the other on snorkel day 5. While in Maui I did a quick internet search to find that this is a very common issue with the Olympus 1030sw. Additionally, while on a snorkel trip to Lanai one of the deckhands on the boat overheard our conversation about the camera and indicated hers died after 10 underwater trips. She also said this has happened to many people/customers taking her snorkel tour. The 1 functional unit in our group (black camera) was perfectly fine for a previous 2 week Hawaii trip, but within 2 days this time the black paint had began to flake off. By day 4 all of the paint was gone and on day 5 the frame that surrounds the lens on the face of the camera fell off. Although it is cosmetically damaged, it does still function. All in all 4 of 5 cameras completely stopped working and now we will all be contacting Olympus for replacement.
Customer Review: CAMERA NOT WATERPROOF!!!
Bought this camera for a snorkeling trip. After two days it proved not to be waterproof. I didn't go below 2 ft before getting a warning to "close the battery compartment" except I never opened it once, It had been sealed properly the 2 previous days. Camera got moisture in the compartment and now does not turn on! It remains to be seen what olympus will do about it.
